My husband got a work phone call at 3am a few days ago. While he was up and I was trying to go back to sleep, I had a painting flash. My brain was buzzing with excitement, but I was too lazy to get up and sketch it. I eventually fell back asleep and then promptly forgot about it. Until now!
The inspiration, courtesy of the Sandy River:
So I started a new map painting, in the vein of Chasing the Starlight and Like Petals on the Earth. Without much quiet time to paint I’m having to make do; I sketched it while watching Megamind with the kids, and started painting last night while watching James May Drinks to Britain. I like to paint at night with only a table lamp on. Hendricks martini optional.
I’ve worked in some of the background parchment colors. Here is a close up:
On the other map paintings I’ve done I glued down the scraps of gold paper before painting. I also used a glossy acrylic to do so. This time I waited until I had painted a bit, then glued them down with a matte acrylic. Much nicer! Some of the paint comes through the paper, and I don’t have shiny sections of my painting.
So there you have it. I’ll post another update as soon as I can.
